Boost for domestic violence work in Charnwood and North West
A new role has been created in Charnwood and North West Leicestershire to ensure that victims of domestic violence are safe and receiving support.
The new worker will be based at Loughborough Womens Aid and by providing the link between victims and agencies, ensure the views of those suffering are heard.
Through supporting males or females experiencing domestic violence, they will focus on those most at risk of further incidents, the safety of the victim and reducing serious harm or death.
The position has been created thanks to funding from the new Leicestershire Safer Communities Strategy Board (LSCSB) - the board oversees the allocation of government funding to ensure the County remains safe.
Money has also been provided by Government Office East Midlands, Charnwood Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council.
Byron Rhodes, Chair of the LSCSB Board, said: "We are committed to ensuring that victims of domestic violence receive safe and appropriate support.
"Through funding this additional post, we have increased provision across the County which can only benefit those who desperately need our help. "We want to ensure that Leicestershire remains a safe place to live, work and visit and will continue to support projects which enable us to deliver this commitment.”
David Snartt, Chairman of the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership, stated: “I am delighted that funding has been agreed to provide this new position.
"Domestic violence is one of the priority areas within the partnership. This extra resource will be extremely helpful in supporting both male and female victims, remembering also that in many cases children and young people also suffer as a consequence of domestic violence.”
Trevor Pendleton, Cabinet Member for Community with North West Leicestershire District Council, said: "Domestic violence can be a terrible blight on families both men and women and young people. This post will mean getting better support to the victims of domestic violence and will be a tremendous asset for us in North West Leicestershire."
