Man assaulted on Ashby Road in Loughborough

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a 22-year-old man was assaulted in Loughborough.

The incident happened at 3am on Thursday May 29, 2008 as the victim and several friends  began to walk along Ashby Road walking towards the town centre after a night out.

After they crossed over the junction with Epinal Way, they were involved in an altercation with a group of between six and seven men in their early twenties walking in front of them.

The victim was assaulted by some of the group. The main suspect involved in the assault is described as being of South East Asian appearance, around 6'1" tall and of medium build. He had broad shoulders and short dark spiky hair. He was wearing a fitted black T-shirt, jeans and black shoes.

The victim was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where he detained overnight for treatment to a fractured eye socket. One of his friends, a 20-year-old man, also received minor injuries during the incident and was treated at the Queens Medical Centre.    

Detective Constable Jason Fell, who is investigating the incident, he said:  "This assault was obviously very distressing for the victim and he has been left extremely upset by the incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident t or knows the identity of the people involved, please get in touch.

"Any information no matter how insignificant it may seem could help with our enquiries."
