Appeal after armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery.

The first incident happened at about 9.50pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 23) at a store in Meadow Lane, Coalville. A man entered the premises and threatened the cashier with what is believed to be a gun. He left the scene empty handed.

The second incident happened at about 12.10am this morning (Thursday, July 24) at premises in Leicester Road, Loughborough. Two men entered the store and threatened the victim with what is believed to be a gun.

No-one was injured in either of the incidents.

A short while later a red Vauxhall was seen driving erratically away from the area.

This vehicle was later located in a ditch on the A46, near Old Dalby. It has since been recovered.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with both incidents this morning in Asfordby Valley. He is currently in police custody.

Sergeant Pete Wheeler, who is investigating the incident said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed either of the incidents to come forward and speak to us. Were you in the area at the time? Did you see anything suspicious? If you have not already spoken to us please get in touch.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who was driving on the A46 last night. Did you see a car go into a ditch? Did you see someone making off from the scene?"
