Disabled man in 40s assaulted then arrested
Posted on 25/09/2008
A disabled man in his forties was attacked in his Loughborough home on Tuesday night by a yob in his twenties who had previously been told by the police not to approach the property.
The man, who had been in bed answered his front door at approximately 8:15pm in the evening to be met with a serious assault that resulted in numerous cuts and bruises to his face and body. He also suffered a fractured nose and bruising to his leg. On regaining consciousness the man managed to call 999 from his mobile phone and requested an ambulance and in fear of his life believing the assailant would return asked for the police.
Three neighbors however were quickly on the scene to find the man in an emotional state and tried to comfort him until paramedics arrived.
Some fifteen minutes later after the paramedics had arrived the police, in the form of PC4517 turned up, didn?t say anything, didn?t ask the victim what had happened or even make a half hearted attempt to ascertain from the neighbors what had happened. PC 4157 Claire Ufton then left the scene.
Over an hour later, to the complete amazement and absolute disgust of the witnesses Ufton then returned an hour later and, still without making any attempt to establish the facts of the matter by speaking to the bruised and battered victim, she arrested him.
Had PC 4157 asked she would have found out that the police had been called to the property previously on the Saturday by Tuesdays victim and whilst the police were present the assailant had thrown a desktop computer at the victim which had led to the police instructing the assailant that he was not allowed back to the property unless the police were present.
At the police station the 40 year old disabled man, who had never been in trouble with the police before was stripped of his clothes, finger printed and had his DNA taken which is now entered on the controversial DNA database infringing his human rights even further.
He was released without charge the following day and is considering making an official complaint that would not be dealt with locally.
