Forensic Career Open Day - Saturday October 4

Posted on 30/09/08

Interested in a career in forensic science? If so, why not come along to a Forensic Career Open Day being hosted by Leicestershire Constabulary.

The open day takes place at Force Headquarters, Enderby, on Saturday October 4, 2008, between 10am and 2pm, and provides an opportunity to understand the various forensic roles available within the Police Service.

Visitors will be able to talk with an experienced forensic scientist from the Forensic Science Service, Scenes of Crime Examiners, Fingerprint Experts, Fingerprint Laboratory Technicians and Forensic Imaging Specialists.

Head of Scientific Support, Vivienne Galloway, said: "Television police dramas and documentaries have raised forensic awareness, both fact and fiction, over recent years. There is a huge appetite for this and we get many enquiries from people interested in a career in forensic science.

"We are giving the public an insight into the Scientific Support Department on Saturday to help them get a realistic understanding of the type of work that is undertaken in this field.

"We anticipate that the day will be highly beneficial to young people about to leave school, those considering a degree course in forensic science, along with suitably qualified adults seeking employment in one of the forensic roles within the Force."

Places are limited and admission is by ticket only (one ticket required per person) which are available free from Mansfield House, Wigston, Keyham Lane, Beaumont Leys, Loughborough and Melton Police Stations.
