Man assaulted on Ashby Road in Loughborough

Posted on 15/10/2008

Police in Loughborough are appealing for witnesses after a 25-year-old man was assaulted on Ashby Road

The incident happened shortly after 2am in the early hours of Sunday October 12, close to Sainsbury's supermarket, as the victim was walking home from a social event. He and his friends were dressed as cavemen.

As he reached the junction with Granville Street he noticed a group of youths standing on the corner. He was assaulted by the group who punched him and pushed him to the ground.

He sustained cuts and bruising to his face and body and was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Local beat officer PC Chris Hughes who is investigating the incident said: "I know this assault happened in the early hours of the morning but I'm sure there will have been other people in the area who may have witnessed it or recall details about those responsible.

"The fact the victim was dressed as caveman may jog people's memories. Perhaps you were in the vicinity of Granville Street and Ashby Road, the A512, and you remember seeing the offenders or events leading up to the assault?

"If you have any information we'd be keen to hear from you."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 2013 Chris Hughes from Loughborough LPU on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 2013. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
