Residents in Shelthorpe invited to walk this way
Posted on 16/10/2008
Residents in the Shelthorpe Ward of Loughborough will be able to raise issues concerning them and discuss ideas for improvements to the area during a special Ward Walk next week.
Representatives from the police, Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council will be at Shelthorpe Children's Centre on Monday, October 20th to listen to people's views.
The Ward Walk is one of a series taking place across the Borough and they aim to make a real difference to local communities.
Events have already taken place in Hastings Ward, Mountsorrel and Syston and many of the concerns raised have already been addressed, including parking, speeding, graffiti, fly-tipping, dog fouling and housing.
All the issues raised are recorded and passed onto the relevant service or agency to either action or respond to as appropriate.
Inspector Tim McCabe, Commander of Loughborough local policing unit, said: "Ward walks are a really useful way of finding out what the real concerns are in an area and enable us to quickly identify which agency is the right one to tackle those concerns. As police officers, we get lots of useful information from residents which we can use to target our resources and plan future operations so I would encourage as many people as possible to take part"
Cllr Richard Shepherd, the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: "It is important to listen to the views of residents and also give them an opportunity to show us their concerns. We are really pleased that several people from a local residents group have already confirmed that they will be joining us on the day"
The event starts with a drop in session between 2pm and 3pm at the Shelthorpe Children's Centre - and the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Stephen Campbell, will be attending from 2.45pm.
He will then be taking part in the Ward Walk, which sets off at 3pm, before everyone returns back to the Children's Centre at 4.30pm for another opportunity for residents to have their say until 5.30pm.
If you are unable to attend but would like to make comments or suggestions, then call (01509) 632 516, email community.strategy@charnwood.gov.uk or write to Charnwood Borough Council, Freepost MID 24276, Loughborough, LE11 0BR.
