Appeal following distraction burglary in Loughborough

Police are appealing for information following a distraction burglary in Loughborough.

The incident occurred between 12.25pm and 12.40pm on Tuesday October 14, 2008 at a house in the Sandringham Drive area of Loughborough.

A man rang the doorbell of the address and told the elderly occupant that he was replacing fences in the area and recommended that she should have hers replaced.  The caller stated that other people in the area had paid for their fences and demanded an amount of money from the occupant stating that he needed this to buy the fencing and materials.  The man left the premises with the money stating he would get a receipt, but never returned.

The man is described as white, around 30 years old, with mousey brown, short, wavy hair, with a pale, clear complexion.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have been visited in similar circumstances is asked to contact the police.

Residents are reminded to always check the identity of any unexpected caller.  Genuine callers won't mind waiting on the doorstep while you make a call to the organisation they say they are from, to check they are who they say they are.  If you are still unsure, the contact the police.
