Posted on 06/11/2008

A police officer from Loughborough has been named Local Police Officer of the Year and will be presented with the Anna Freer Trophy.

The trophy is awarded to the Local Police Officer (LPO) whose overall performance throughout the year has been deemed to be outstanding and the award acknowledges the efforts of front line officers.

PC 1450 Ian Horsfall from Loughborough LPU has been chosen as this year's winner,  He will be invited to the Chief Constable's Award Ceremony to receive a glass engraved trophy, a cheque for £500 and Loughborough police station will be awarded £5,000 from central funds to develop its facilities.

PC Horsfall has been a police officer for more than twelve years and has worked in a variety of roles.  He was a Firearms Officer for 2 years, he's worked in CID, specialised in tackling vehicle crime, and was responsible for setting up a Vehicle Crime Team.  He returned to frontline policing one and a half years ago at Loughborough to work on the Instant Response Vehicle (IRV) responding to 999 calls and other incidents.

Sergeant Jamie Osborne, who nominated Ian for the award, said; "Ian thoroughly deserves this award as he is an exceptional officer.  He displays a very high level of personal motivation and has a high level of care and compassion for victims of crime and witnesses.  He is diligent in his inquiries and, as a result, has made many arrests.  He takes his role as a senior police officer seriously and is more than willing to use his experience, skills and abilities to help mentor new recruits. He is a great team player and professional in his manner, thoughts and observations."

PC Ian Horsfall said; "It is great in many ways but I know that there are lots of other officers who would be just as worthy of winning the award as me but I know that only one person can win.   It is very nice to be recognised."

Inspector Tim McCabe, Commander of Loughborough Local Policing Unit said; "It is great that an officer from Loughborough has won this year's ward and it is a reflection of Ian's thoughtful dedication and commitment to his job.  I am really pleased for Ian as he deserves the accolade."

PC 1713 Stephen Plumb from Beaumont Leys LPU and PC 4039 Tracey Horne, from Blaby LPU were both Highly Commended.
