Council Consults on Future Vision

A FUTURE vision of Charnwood for the next decade has been unveiled by the Borough Council.

And anyone living or working in the Borough can have their say on the ideas contained in the Authoritys new look Corporate Plan 2009-2012, which was approved by the Councils Cabinet last night (Thursday).

The consultation begins on Friday, January 2nd and lasts until Tuesday, February 10th " and gives people the opportunity to comment on the Councils goals for the next 10 years.

Included in the plan are the Councils immediate priorities which will be delivered over the next three years and will help form the foundation for the long-term objectives.

Residents, partners, businesses and community groups are being encouraged to put forward their views on the Plan and what they think the Borough should be like in 10 years time.

A series of exhibitions will be held across the Borough during the consultation period when officers and members of the Councils Cabinet will take on board residents views.

Details of all the venues and dates will be available in the New Year.

Cllr Richard Shepherd (Conservative councillor for Quorn & Mountsorrel Castle), the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: "This is a plan for our Borough focusing on the immediate priorities for the next three years and the long-term objectives over the next decade.

"As such, Councillors are keen to ensure everyone who lives, works or is based in the Borough has the opportunity to put forward their views.

"It is a plan for all of us. Councillors want to check that we have got it right.

Officers from the Council have already taken on board the views of residents and partners in developing the Plan following the extensive consultation carried out during the preparation of the Sustainable Community Strategy.

The Corporate Plan has a clear vision which states: "From towns to villages to rural settings, Charnwood must be attractive to established new residents as a place of choice to live, work and visit.

"It must be prosperous, progressive and innovative whilst preserving the diverse identity of its communities, landscape, heritage and built environment.

Brian Hayes, the Chief Executive of Charnwood Borough Council, added: "We have already consulted widely in bringing this plan together and we have what, we believe, is a clear set of priorities and activities for the next three years.

"However, it is important for us to consult with our residents and partners to ensure we have got it right.

In light of the current economic climate, the Corporate Plan has been developed taking budget restrictions into account.

The Council is also consulting on its budgets for 2009-10 and residents will be able to put forward their views on spending priorities
