University seeks nominations for student community award

Loughborough residents are being encouraged to nominate students for two prizes awarded annually by the University in recognition of students good work in the community or good community relations.

The first students can be nominated for is the T S Shipman Prize. It is given to students of the University or College who are considered to have contributed most to the development or co-operation and aid between the University or College and the local community.

The Hannah Community Prize is the second award. It seeks to recognise students for showing acts of kindness, general good neighbourliness or making a contribution to local community life.

In 2007 seven students were presented with prizes as part of these two award schemes and an award ceremony will again be held in 2008. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shirley Pearce, will make the presentations together with the Mayor of Charnwood.

Adrian Bailey, the Universitys Community Warden for the Storer Road and Burleigh Road areas of Loughborough, comments: Over the last few years we have had many excellent examples of students making extremely valuable contributions to community groups and to their neighbourhoods. We are confident of more good examples this year and need local residents to let us know about the activities of students they are in touch with or who live close by. Nominations for these awards should be made to the University by Friday 25 April. Further information is available from Dawn Schubert on 01509 222487 or email D.Schubert@lboro.ac.uk. A nomination form is also available by logging on to: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/admin/ar/student/prizes/index.htm
