Loughborough University teacher training graded outstanding
Loughborough Universitys teacher training has been graded as outstanding the highest possible category by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).
The grading followed a recent review of teacher training provision at the University. It found particular strengths in several areas, including: strong leadership; continuous improvement; exciting innovations; outstanding attention to trainees needs; excellent documentation; and well-designed selection procedures.
Loughborough University trains up to 130 secondary school teachers a year through its PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate in Education) courses in Design and Technology, Physical Education and Science. The PGCE provides practical professional preparation for teaching in secondary schools across the 11-18 age range, and is designed and delivered in partnership with around 70 schools in up to nine surrounding Local Authorities.
Dr Jo Harris, Director of the Universitys Teacher Education Unit, said: We are delighted that Ofsted has confirmed the quality of Loughboroughs Initial Teacher Training as outstanding and awarded us the highest grade possible.
Design and Technology, Physical Education and Science trainees who obtain Qualified Teacher Status at Loughborough are recognised by Ofsted as high quality teachers who are able to make significant contributions to raising standards of education in our schools, and they can look forward to a successful and satisfying career.
