International Conference on Industrialised, Integrated, Intelligent Construction

Loughborough University will be hosting the first international conference on Industrialised, Integrated, Intelligent Construction (I3CON) from 14 16 May.

The conference will include presentations from the European Commission and keynote speeches from eminent speakers including: Dr David Clarke, CEO of the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI); Professor Reijo Kohonen, CEO of Global EcoSolutions Ltd; and Dr Miguel Segarra, Coordinator of the I3CON project. The event will also feature paper presentations and workshops on the latest developments in I3CON.

The project, one of the main drivers of the conference, is aiming to create a European construction industry capable of building the homes and offices of tomorrow. The 17.5 million research project brings together 26 partners from 14 countries, including the Universitys European Union Research Group (EURG), based in the Department of Civil and Building Engineering. Loughborough is the only UK university involved in the project.

I3CON will apply innovative construction and production technologies to enable the development of a sustainable and environmentally friendly construction industry that can deliver the intelligent buildings of the future. These buildings will be flexible with adaptable spaces that are able to monitor their own environments, using less energy and producing less waste. Using state-of-the-art production technologies they will have services, such as electricity, communications and plumbing, already built into the structure, streamlining the entire construction process.

The conference has attracted a wide audience from more than 13 countries and will provide delegates with networking opportunities and the chance to develop ideas for further work related to the I3CON themes.

There is still chance to register for this exciting event. For further details on the conference, including the conference programme, details of workshops and to download a conference brochure and registration form visit: http://www.i3con.org/conference.htm
