Loughborough University in top ten of national league table

Loughborough is one of the top ten universities in the UK, according to The Guardian league tables 2009.

Loughborough is ranked in tenth position out of 117 institutions in the overall table, making it the top university in the East Midlands.

In the individual subject tables Loughborough University is ranked in the top ten in nine of the tables.

It’s success in The Guardian follows its top ranking in last week’s Good University Guide, published in The Independent, which placed the University at 13th.

Loughborough’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shirley Pearce, said: “This latest ranking is further confirmation of Loughborough’s position as one of the top universities in the UK.”

Published online today (1 May), The Guardian tables rank subject areas/courses against seven criteria teaching quality, feedback, spending per student, staff/student ratio, job prospects, value added (comparing students’ degree results with their entry qualifications) and entry score. From these an average score for each institution has been compiled, weighted by number of students and mix of subjects.

The tables cover all full-time, undergraduate courses at higher education institutions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and are aimed at those wanting to start university in the 2009-10 academic year.
