Loughborough Graduate Strange named in Paralympic wheelchair squad
A Loughborough University graduate has been named in the British women’s wheelchair basketball team for the Beijing Paralympics.
Former Sports Scholar Clare Strange studied Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough from 2001 to 2003.
The 28-year-old, who broke her back aged 18 in a freak riding accident, will be in action at her third consecutive Games this summer, having competed in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. Strange was also part of the British team to win back to back silver at the 2005 and 2006 Paralympic World Cup in Manchester.
The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games opens on September 6 and closes on September 17. The wheelchair basketball events at the Games take place at the University of Science and Technology Gymnasium before the finals at the National Indoor Stadium.
The competition for the wheelchair basketball gets under way on September 7 with the finals scheduled for September 16. Britain’s women come up against Australia in their opening game before facing Brazil, USA and Germany in the rest of their pool games.
