Garendon concerns set to be discussed
Posted on 01/01/2009
Cabinet Office
Concerns about proposed development in Loughborough will be discussed later this week.
At a meeting on Friday (14th November), the County Councils Cabinet will be considering Charnwood Borough Council’s plans for north of Garendon Park.
In a report, officers consider the Charnwood transport study to be flawed, that Garendon provides little scope for expansion for longer term development needs and that the proposal would result in significantly increased congestion in the town centre.
It also says that opportunities to the east of Lougborough have not been well enough explored even though they could make a big difference to the town.
The Cabinet is being recommended to agree that strong reservations be submitted to the Borough Council.
Nicholas Rushton, County Council Deputy Leader with responsibility for Transport, said: "We need to make sure that we have a long term approach to resolving Loughborough’s transport problems which involves close liaison with County transport experts and does not exacerbate existing problems."
