Boost for Leicestershire business
Posted on 31/12/2008

A landmark business decision could help traders across Leicestershire to weather the economic downturn.
Last week, Hinckley became the first place in the county to set up a Business Improvement District (BID) after town centre business voted in favour.
This means that there will be more than £1million available to promote the town centre and its businesses over the next five years.
Now, the County Council will use Hinckley as a model and work with towns across Leicestershire - this includes Melton and Loughborough who are already in the early stages of looking into the possibility.
In Hinckley, the BID process has drawn in funding from businesses which will be used to carry out local marketing and promotion, events and visitor services and business development.
The County Council is a key partner in Town Centre Partnerships across Leicestershire and Hinckleys BID.
John Moore, the County Councils representative on the Hinckley Town Partnership Centre BID, said: “I am absolutely delighted that after many months of work by all parties concerned this project is finally going to go ahead.
"Im confident that this opportunity will be grasped with both hands and provide a real competitive marketing advantage to the whole town.
"This is the first project of its kind in Leicestershire and hopefully, will be taken up by other towns to benefit local people during uncertain economic times."
Notes: Town Centre Partnerships are business-driven. Membership varies but they usually include the County Council, District/Borough Council, police, businesses and the voluntary sector.
