Birds eye view is a fresh look at landscape pictures

An exhibition of paintings and unique aerial photographs opens at Charnwood Museum this weekend.

Robert Thacker’s “Man and Nature Patternmakers in the Landscape” shows a different perspective of the world we inhabit by juxtaposing his colourful mixed media paintings with his stunning aerial photographs.

Local artist Robert Thacker took his photographs from commercial flights flying at 35,000 feet over North West China and Australia. He captured fascinating landscapes which are vibrant, rich and textured and provided inspiration for his paintings.

Robert said: "I travel a lot in the course of my work and got into the habit of capturing on digital camera the patterns, colours and shapes in the landscape that were visible from the plane window. Now the photographic subject and painting style influence each other."

Both media can be seen at the exhibition at Charnwood Museum between January 10 and 25. For a new angle on natural and man-made landscapes the exhibition shows shapes and forms that the earth-bound viewer often misses.

Charnwood Museum is situated in Queen’s Park in the centre of Loughborough. Opening hours are 10.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and 1.00pm to 4.00pm on Sundays. Entry is free. For further details about the museum’s activities please call 01509 233754.

Charnwood Museum is run as a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
