Charnwood Gets Going on Eastern Gateway
Posted on 28/01/2009
This week sees a major step forward in Charnwood Borough Councils campaign to deliver its key regeneration scheme around Loughborough Station " the Loughborough Eastern Gateway.
On Monday the planning application was submitted for the new link road from Meadow Lane to Nottingham Road and 120 new homes, many of them affordable. This represents the first phase of this important project. In due course the development will see new parking and public transport provision at the Station with commercial and retail development alongside.
On 30 January 2009 the Council will serve a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the land needed to build the housing and the road.
Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration Cllr Stephen Hampson (Conservative councillor for Syston East) said "We continue to work closely with Network Rail and their leaseholders to try to acquire the land by agreement but by making the CPO we demonstrate our determination to see this project through.
The Eastern Gateway scheme is a partnership between Charnwood Borough Council, Nottingham Community Housing Association, William Davis Ltd and Leicestershire County Council. It is receiving significant public funding from the Housing Corporation, the Leicester and Leicestershire Growth Point Fund and the Borough Council.
