Purse Alarms for the Vulnerable

Posted on 02/02/2009

Charnwood Community Safety Partnership is to distribute alarms at Barrow upon Soar this week to prevent purse thefts amongst vulnerable people and people over 60. Purse theft is a constant threat.

The alarms will be distributed freely at The Bishop Beverage Club, 22 South Street, Barrow upon Soar at 10.00am on Thursday 5 February. Also available will be a range of crime prevention leaflets to help people avoid becoming a victim of crime and to prevent thefts from vehicles and homes.

Cllr. David Snartt the Chairperson of Charnwood Community Safety Partnership said "I was particularly pleased to see the handbag/purse alarms being fitted. After a few recent thefts involving the most vulnerable members of our community, I believe this initiative will deter thieves and give reassurance to residents when out shopping.

The Partnership consists of Charnwood Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, Leicestershire Constabulary and Loughborough University as well as other partners working together to provide a safer community.
