Leader invites Imams from India to County Hall

Photo Opportunity:  Prominent members of the muslim community have been invited to County Hall to see how the Council is working in partnership to promote and embrace diversity and community cohesion.  The 10 Imams who have travelled from India to learn more about local government in England, will be visiting County Hall on Thursday 5th February at 11.30am.

During their visit David Parsons, Leader of the Council, will give a presentation on the County Councils role in leading partnerships such as Leicestershire Together which brings together representatives to look at local issues.  Whilst at County Hall, the Imams will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Further more, the Council has set-up a county-wide Interfaith Forum to focus on key issues for faith communities e.g. discrimination and extremism.  The aim of the Forum is to develop a clear focus on the current and future needs and interests of Leicestershire people. The Forum is complementary to the work of the Council of Faiths in the City and Loughborough.

David Parsons, Leader of Leicestershire County Council, said:

"The County Council places great importance on ensuring that all members of our local community are included when shaping future services.  Leicestershire is leading many different initiatives to promote good community relationships. I am delighted that the Imams have chosen to come to Leicestershire as we are able to share with them the work that we are doing for different communities."
