Snow Doesnt Catch Charnwood Cold
Posted on 04/02/2009
THE worst snow the country has seen for 18 years did not catch Charnwood Borough Council cold!
Although the weather did cause minor disruption to some bin collections due to side roads being impassable in Hathern, Hoton, Mountsorrel, Shepshed, Walton and Wymeswold, it was a case of business as usual for staff at the Authoritys Southfields offices in Loughborough on Monday and Tuesday.
Refuse collections which were missed on Tuesday were being picked up today (Wednesday) as crews made extra efforts to ensure all wheelie bins were emptied and the recycling was collected.
Although a few staff were unable to get in due to the arctic conditions on Monday, the majority of these were able to work from home.
Chief Executive Brian Hayes was quick to praise staff for their dedication to get into work and ensure services to the public were not affected.
He said: "My thanks go to all staff for the extra effort they have made to maintain services during these extreme weather conditions.
"Although some were unable to get in due to it being too dangerous or having childcare issues with schools being closed, there was a willingness from everyone to make sure it was a case of business as usual.
"The snow obviously caused some disruption to a few services but we pulled out the stops to make sure it was as minimal as possible.
Cllr Richard Shepherd (Conservative councillor for Quorn & Mountsorrel Castle), the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, added: "I should like to pay tribute to all the staff at Charnwood for doing so much to keep our services going during the recent severe conditions.
"People pulled together to minimise any disruption. Thank you!
