Recognition for Former Borough Councillors

Posted on 06/02/2009

The Mayor of Charnwood will be presenting Certificates of Service to all former Borough Councillors who retired or lost their seats in May 2007 and in any elections since.

An informal reception in the Mayors Parlour at the Town Hall will be held on Monday 9th February 2009 where the Mayor will pay tribute to work and dedication of the ex-councillors, some of whom served their Wards and the Borough for many years.

The Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, Councillor Richard Shepherd (Conservative councillor for Quorn & Mountsorrel Castle), said: "People elected as councillors play an important part in our countrys system of democratic representation. It is fitting that we should find a way of recognising and recording their service.

25 councillors retired or lost their seats in the Borough Elections in 2007 and there has been one by-election since.
