Six students recruited to new Nike campaign
Six Loughborough students have been recruited by Nike as ambassadors to help empower women and girls in sport.
Gemma Hillier, Liu Batchelor, Catherine Clark-Field, Emma Moutrie, Kathryn Taylor and Jasmine Scott were named Nike Selects following a series of roadshows across the UK and Ireland.
The Nike selectors sought out ambitious, stylish and inspirational young women, who are passionate about sport and live their lives with the strength and confidence sport gives them. Loughborough’s six make up the largest number from any one University.
Rower Clark-Field and multi-sports athlete Scott are part of a select group of five athletes that form Team Here I Am. They will be working together within the wider team of 14 sporty ambassadors to embody the spirit of Nike Women on each of their university campuses.
The girls will also be involved in advertising campaigns and will make regular appearances at Nike events to encourage women to ‘train to be stronger’ both in body and mind.
“We can help to organise events and promote awareness of what is going on,” said Clark-Field. “This can include showing how people have got into the Great Britain team, how hard they worked, and what sort of obstacles they faced.
“The programme can also help make unknown athletes familiar to a wider audience and improve the understanding of why they do it.”
Loughborough graduates Paula Radcliffe and Jeanette Kwakye were among Nike athletes involved in the selection process.
“Encouraging young women to continue sport participation is vital if we want to see young UK talent compete at the highest level and prove we have what it takes to be world class athletes”, said Radcliffe.
Selected athletes and their sport and degree details:
Gemma Hillier (Athletics/Sport and Exercise Science) Kathryn Taylor (Swimming/Masters in Physical Health and Activity) Catherine Clark-Field (Rowing/Sport and Leisure Management) Emma Moutrie (Athletics and Dance/Sport and Exercise Science) Jasmine Scott (Netball, Rowing and Hockey/Psychology with Ergonomics) Liu Batchelor (Wakeboarding/Product Design and Manufacture)
