Tap into waterways plans at Loughborough meeting

People in Loughborough can keep up to speed with the latest plans for local waterways next week.

At Loughborough North West Area Forum, residents will be able to hear about future proposals for the River Soar and the Grand Union Canal and also have a say.

People can find out what is being done to tackle crime and disorder and make communities safer as well as learn about NHS Leicestershire County and Rutlands plans for this year.

There is the opportunity to find out more about Loughborough Special Rate, raise any issues and ask questions.

Area forums are a great opportunity for people to find out what is happening on their doorstep, give views, get answers to queries and influence local decision-making.

Since they started in January last year, over 2,500 people have taken part and picked up the latest on services for older people, anti-social behaviour, eco-town proposals, grants, development plans, lorry routes, tackling crime, transport, housing, jobs, loan sharks, roads, community hospitals plus much more.

Max Hunt, Chair of the Forum, said: "We are going to hear some good news about plans to improve our countryside along the river valley but as usual, its also an excellent opportunity for any resident to put officials and councillors on the spot.  Questions are ideally sent in advance but can be asked without notice."

Loughborough North West Area Forum is taking place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 17th February at All Saints Church Hall, Thorpe Acre Road, Loughborough.

The meeting is open to all residents living in Thorpe Acre, Knightthorpe Road, Rosebery, Oxford Street, Warwick Way and the Garendon, Storer and Ashby wards.

For more information about the meeting, please contact Richard Downing on 0116 305 5823 or go to www.leicestershireforums.org

Notes:

Community Forums involve Leicestershire County Council, District and Borough Councils, NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Together partners.

There are 27 forums across Leicestershire which bring together elected representatives across all tiers of local government - County, District and Borough and Parish, together with a range of other community representatives.

Although they do not have formal decision-making powers, forums are important bodies of influence - there is a duty to respond to actions recommended.
