Coaching the Coaches!
Posted on 04/03/2009
CLUBS and coaches in Charnwood are set to benefit from a free event organised by the Charnwood Sport and Active Recreation Alliance (CSARA).
The first Club and Coaches evening of 2009 will take place on Tuesday, March 17th between 6.30pm and 8.30pm at Longslade Community College (Luther King Centre), Wanlip Lane, Birstall
It promises to attract a broad array of those individuals involved with sport in the Borough. The evening is dedicated to aspiring coaches, those who are already coaching and any proactive clubs in Charnwood.
There will be an opportunity to attend valuable workshops including, how to fit school club links into your coaching, advice and information on Club Mark accreditation, assistance in obtaining funding, and attracting volunteer support for your club.
The evening will also give participants the chance to talk with local coaches, like-minded individuals and local sports development officers.
Arran Coggan, Charnwood Borough Councils Senior Sports Development Officer said It is an exciting time for sport now that the Olympic and Paralympic flags have been handed over to London.
"The achievements of the athletes last summer will inspire people to take up sport and our job is to support the volunteers, coaches, and clubs.
"The club and coaches evening will become a regular event for clubs and coaches to pick out the information they need to play a fundamental role in the development and provision of sport inCharnwood.
There will also be an opportunity to find out more about the new Charnwood Sports Awards at the event " and pick up nomination forms.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Leisure, added: "Our initiative recognises the pivotal role played by coaches.
"We are seeking to reinforce their dedication and professionalism. At the same time I urge those enthusiasts whod like to join us not to hold back or be too modest.
"If youve got people skills and love for your sport, do join us. We need you!!
