Creative Cerys Eco-Poem a Hit!

Posted on 09/03/2009

CREATIVE Cerys Hughes has written a poem warning of the dangers of global warming in an attempt to encourage more people to think of ways to protect the environment.

The 11-year-old Robert Bakewell School pupil wrote her prose, titled Global Warming, at home after discussing the threats facing the planet from climate change in class.

Her work impressed Cllr David Snartt, Charnwood Borough Councils Climate Change Champion, who presented her with a book titled Save the Planet.

Cerys said: "The poem came into my head because the world needs to be more eco-friendly.

"Ive enjoyed learning about climate change and how the littlest thing can make a difference.

Susan Powis, the headteacher at Robert Bakewell, which is a Green Flag Eco-School, said everyone was proud of Cerys poem.

She added: "It shows that the children have taken their learning a stage further and their independent thinking is teaching them new life skills.

Cllr Snartt said: "We take the threat of climate change very seriously at Charnwood Borough Council and we are committed to reducing our carbon emissions to face this challenge head on.

"Its fantastic to see that the next generation are also thinking about what needs to be done to help save the planet and inspire others to do the same.

Global Warming by Cerys Hughes

Global warming has to stop, or the planets gonna pop.

If you think, bit by bit, were the ones who started it.

Think of all the living creatures, nows the time to be the teachers.

Teach the planet for a solution, to stop all this air pollution.

Lets not have any hesitation; we will be responsible for the future generation.

I hope you now know that electricity must be low.

Litter in bins, but recycle paper, card and tins.

Together we can make it stop, before the planet just goes pop!
