Shelthorpe Partnership Action Week

Posted on 18/03/09

PARTNERS will be pulling together in Shelthorpe next week to help improve the local environment, reduce crime and build community confidence.

Charnwood Borough Council is working in partnership with Shelthorpe Community Association, the police, fire service and primary care trust during the Action Week on the Shelthorpe Estate from Monday, March 23rd March to Friday, March 27th.

The base for all activities will be the Hunters Moon public house which the landlord has kindly let the organisers use free of charge.

On Monday (March 23rd), there will be an Environmental Action Day which will involve volunteers and staff working on graffiti removal and cleaning up the gardens of older residents and people with disabilities.

There will be a number of pre-school activities on Tuesday morning (March 24th) including story telling and a Teddy Bears picnic.

In the afternoon, there will be activities for people over 60 - which will include bingo and a Sing Along sessions - and Cllr David Snartt, Chairperson of the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership, will also attend and distribute purse alarms and give crime reduction advice to all present.

During Wednesday afternoon, between 2pm and 5pm, there will be a chance for 0-5 year olds to take part in a mini-movers session at the Childrens Centre on Woodthorpe Road.

And in the evening, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm, there is a chance for young people to receive a golf taster session at the Shelthorpe Golf Club.

On Thursday morning, there will be information surgeries and drop in sessions which will include a free health check; advice on crime reduction; and fire prevention.

Finally, on Friday, there will be a big thank you from Charnwood Borough Council and Shelthorpe Community Association to everyone who has been involved to attend a BBQ at the Hunters Moon.

Anne Watkinson, Chair of Shelthorpe Community Association welcomed the partnership approach to the event, saying: Things are changing for the better on Shelthorpe and the way we have worked with all our partners including the Borough Council, local Police and Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing can only mean a brighter future for all residents.

Cllr. David Snartt, Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: This is a real opportunity for partners to work together for the benefit of the residents of Shelthorpe. All partners are committed to improving the way services are delivered to the local community.

Inspector Tim McCabe, Commander of Loughborough Local Policing Unit, said; These partnership action weeks are very worthwhile.

Not only do they help us identify local problems they also enable us to identify the right organisations to solve those problems. I would urge as many people as possible to get involved because it is only by working as a team that we can make a difference in the long term."

For a timetable of the events, or for any further information, contact Hiron Miah, Charnwood Borough Councils Community Safety Strategy Officer, on (Loughborough 01509) 632 517.
