Whether or not the sun shines this summer, a series of fun events for children and adults is in store at The Richard Attenborough Centre, University of Leicester, to brighten up the season.

Events for children include the Foolhardy Folk Circus: Love makes the world go round, with top class circus acts in a traditional big top (Wednesday 27-Sunday 31 May); The Square on the Hippopotamus (Sunday 31 May), a fun-filled concert with trumpet soloist Mark Kesel and pianist Ian Westley with a host of wacky instruments; and Two Funny Blokes and a Dog, an interactive stand-up comedy from Patrick Monahan for children aged 6+ and their grown-ups.

Everyone loves a good story, and the Leicestershire Guild of Storytellers presents Tales of the Ancient Forest on Saturday 9 May, with stories from around the world for the young at heart aged 12+ years, and the compelling tale of King Arthur on Friday 26 June. Storyteller Pete Castle offers a selection of folk songs and traditional stories on Friday 15 May, with Grandad Told Me These, while Writers on the Road showcases some of the work of the Leicester Writers
