Giving the Borough a Spring Clean
Posted on 24/03/09
RESIDENTS across Charnwood are being encouraged to give the Borough a spring clean during a nationwide Big Tidy Up.
Keep Britain Tidy launched its spring campaign today (Tuesday, March 24th) - and Charnwood Borough Council is supporting the initiative by offering gloves and litter-picking tools that can be loaned out free of charge.
The launch of the national campaign comes just days after the Council received four out of five stars in the 2008-09 Clean Britain Awards.
Inspectors who visited 10 areas in the Borough including Barrow, Burton on the Wolds, two sites in Loughborough, Quorn, Sileby, Syston, Thurmaston, Walton on the Wolds and Woodhouse Eaves said Charnwood was a very pleasant area to visit and that its clear that the local people are interested in keeping it clean and tidy.
Cllr Mike Preston (Conservative councillor for Queniborough), Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Environment, welcomed the comments made by the Clean Britain Awards inspectors and encouraged residents to take pride in their area by helping to keep it tidy.
He said: The efforts we are going to in a bid to ensure Charnwood is a cleaner, greener place to live and work in has been recognised with us receiving four stars in the Clean Britain Awards.
We will continue to do our best and keep the streets free from litter. Initiatives like Keep Britain Tidys Spring Clean campaign encourage residents to take pride in the areas where they live.
The Council is delighted to support this wonderful campaign and I would encourage residents, community groups, businesses and schools to take advantage of our free loan of litter-picking equipment.
We can even come and pick up the rubbish youve collected.
Charnwood Borough Council supported the Big Tidy Up last September and numerous events were held, including a large student litter pick in Loughborough where more than 200 bags of rubbish were collected during one afternoon.
For more information on how to organise a Spring Clean and borrow gloves and litter-picking equipment from the Council, contact Victoria Brackenbury on (Loughborough 01509) 634 764 or email victoria.brackenbury@charnwood.gov.uk .
