Neighbourhood officers help to clean up Shepshed

The police in Shepshed have been working with the council to get graffiti cleaned off walls around the town.
The neighbourhood beat team noticed that some areas of the town, such as Wightman Close Alley and Glenmore Park, were particularly badly affected by graffiti and decided to enlist the help of Charnwood Borough Councils Cleansing Team to get rid of it. Now the graffiti in those two areas has been removed. The large green electrical box on the corner of Leicester Road has also been cleaned.
PC 1264 Rich Neville, one of the Shepshed neighbourhood beat officers said; "Graffiti can lead to a lack of respect for an area and we want people to feel proud to live in Shepshed. Some of the graffiti had been there for quite some time and it just looked a mess so we thought it would be nice to get it washed off. Now we can keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt get that bad again. We are also looking to get other areas of the town cleaned up.
"It is a criminal offence to deface property as it is regarded as criminal damage and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might be able to help us catch those responsible."
Councillor David Snartt, Chairman of the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership said: "This is another illustration of agencies working together for the benefit of local communities.
"We have been working with our partners across the Charnwood area to free local areas of graffiti; therefore it is pleasing to see this work is continuing within Shepshed.
"The Safety Partnership has produced a guide, Safe and Secure, to help residents deal with anti-social behaviour, including graffiti. This outlines how they may help and report this unacceptable behaviour, which is generally committed by a small minority within their community. Copies of this guide are available from Charnwood Borough Council, Libraries and all Police Stations within Charnwood."
If you have any information about the people responsible for the graffiti you can call PC 1264 Rich Neville on Leicester 0116 222 2222 and, when prompted, key in collar number 1264 and leave a message. If you require more information about the Cleansing Team, please call Loughborough (01509) 634563 or email cleansing@charnwood.gov.uk.
