Loughborough University hosts maths conference

Loughborough University is hosting an event for Year 8 students to underline the importance of mathematics in every day life.

The event, called Maths Is there a Point, will take place in the Mathematics Education Centre on campus on Thursday, April 2.

The day, which is aimed at Year 8 students in local schools, will provide an opportunity to find out more about the worth of mathematics and how it can be applied in a number of interesting situations.

The event aims to challenge and enthuse students in the subject, introduce students to a university environment, as well as offering all attendees an enjoyable experience. The day will consist of three workshops, developed and delivered by a mixture of local teachers, university staff and current undergraduate students. These workshops will be interactive and will feature the use of visual aids and practical equipment.

The event is being coordinated by the Leicestershire Further Mathematics Centre, in conjunction with the Widening Participation Office at Loughborough University.
