Rail investment welcomed

A £600 million rail investment, which will improve stations and routes in Leicestershire, has been welcomed by the County Council.

Stations at Melton Mowbray, Syston, South Wigston, Loughborough and Market Harborough will benefit from platform improvements and a study will take place into electrification of the Midland Mainline, as part of Network Rails investment across the region.

Leicestershire County Councils deputy leader, Nick Rushton, said: "We welcome the announcement of further investment in rail in the county, both the improvements to line speed and reliability and the proposals to improve station platforms.

"Improvements to rail service s are vital to our economy, as they will increase the attraction of Leicestershire as a place to live and to do business."
