Expert Advice at Green Roadshows
Posted on 07/04/09
EXPERT advice on how to reduce the amount of food and garden waste that is sent to landfill sites will be available at a series of green roadshows.
Charnwood Borough Council, in conjunction with the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the Leicestershire Waste Partnership and local businesses, are hosting seven events to encourage residents to consider a number of different recycling options.
These include food digesters, including wormeries, home composting and the Councils garden waste collection scheme.
There will also be a chance to find out how to prevent unnecessary food waste as well as sowing lettuce seeds which can be taken away with you.
Cllr Mike Preston (Conservative councillor for Queniborough), Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Environment, said: It is very important that we reduce the amount of food and garden waste that is sent to landfill as it can be very damaging to our environment.
Food and garden waste sent to landfill produces methane gas which is up to 25 times more damaging to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.
These roadshows will give residents the chance to come and talk to experts about the different options available when disposing of food and garden waste.
The roadshows are taking place at local businesses at venues throughout the Borough on:
Thursday, April 9 Wyevale Garden Centre, Loughborough Road, Rothley;
Thursday, April 23 Goscote Nurseries, Syston Road, Cossington;
Thursday, May 7 B&Q, Jubilee Drive, Loughborough;
Thursday, May 14 Loughborough Road Nurseries, Quorn;
Friday, May 29 Hathern Nurseries, Ashby Road, Hathern;
Thursday, June 25 Loughborough Market Place
Friday, July 17 B&Q, Jubilee Drive, Loughborough
Kath Kay, Charnwood Borough Councils Waste Policy Manager, added: There are so many alternatives to just simply placing this waste in the black wheeled bin.
There are some great offers on some of the equipment available so come along and find out more.
