Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a robbery on the Beaumont Leys playing fields, Rutherford Road.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Monday April 13, when the 8-year-old victim was riding his bike across the park with his parents nearby.

As he rode along the bike track he was approached by two youths. One of the youths pushed the victim on his back, resulting in him falling to the ground and kicked him.

One of the youths then picked up the victims bike and made off towards Butterwick Drive with the second youth who was also riding a bike.

The victim received minor injuries to his head but did not attend the hospital.

The bike was described as a blue and white BMX with white tyres and a sticker with the letters DK on the front of it.

The first youth, who stole the bike, was described as white, aged 14 to 16 years-old, around 55" tall, clean shaven and of a medium build. He was wearing a black hooded top that covered his head.

The second youth, was described as white, aged 14 to 16 years-old and was also wearing a black hooded top.

Detective Constable Caroline Simmons, the officer investigating the incident, said: "The victim and his parents are eager to get the bike back and so we are appealing for help from the public.

"Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Can you remember seeing two youths riding on bikes near Butterwick Drive? Have you been approached by someone who has tried to sell you a bike matching the above description? If so then please contact us with any information you have."
