Happy Birthday Charnwood Museum

Charnwood Museum is currently celebrating its tenth birthday year, as the popular museum in Queen’s Park, Loughborough opened in 1999.

To celebrate the museum’s 10th birthday there is an evening event being held on 22 April at 7.30pm at the museum and the public have the opportunity to see the popular  “A Celebration of Charnwood’ exhibition on at the museum until 10 May.

The exhibition features the treasures of Charnwood District’s history, with magnificent objects drawn from the County Council’s Collections Resources Centre and archives from the County’s Record Office.  Amazing objects already on display at the museum include the famous Auster aircraft, the Beaumanor Chair and being able to walk over a full size replica of a prehistoric reptile skeleton.

Forthcoming events at the museum in its 10th birthday year include the Loughborough Centenary Exhibition, which opens on 16 May and a full workshop programme for children during the summer holidays and in November 2009 the museum is delighted to be hosting the Royal Photographic Society’s Members exhibition.

Entry to the museum is free.

Charnwood Museum is in Queens Park in the centre of Loughborough and is open from 10.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday and 1.00pm 4.00pm on winter Sundays (November to March).

Charnwood Museum is run in partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
