Police are trying to trace two people they believe witnessed an assault in Coalville.

The incident happened at around 2am on Saturday, April 11 in Melbourne Street when the 27-year-old victim was assaulted.

The two suspects made off with the victims handbag, which contained two mobile phones, cash and cards.

The victim received minor injuries to her head which required hospital treatment.

During the incident two passers-by intervened and stopped the assault. It is these two people that officers want to speak to.

Two women, aged 42 and 19-years-old have been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further inquires.

PC Steve Harrison, who is investigating the incident said: "We are keen to trace two passers-by who intervened in the incident and helped the victim. If this was you please get in touch. You could have information which could help with our enquiries.

"We would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the incident."
