Discover the delights of cyber-life at the library

Around 10 million over-50s in the UK haven’t yet discovered the delights and benefits of the internet and Silver Surfers' Day aims to change that.

On Friday 15 May libraries across Leicestershire will be offering free sessions for those aged 50 to 100+ years to get them started on the internet and give them an appetite for more.  From keeping in touch with friends and family across the globe to booking a holiday, doing the shopping, sharing photographs, catching up with missed TV programmes and much, much more, the internet has something for everyone.

The library, with its informal, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, supportive staff to help, is an ideal place to take that first step to getting online. All libraries have computers for public use and access to the internet is free.

Silver Surfers’ Day is part of Adult Learners’ Week. Held each May, Adult Learners’ Week encourages thousands of adults, whatever their age, and background, to give learning a go.

Now in its 18th year, Adult Learners' Week is the UK's largest and longest running learning campaign. Co-ordinated by NIACE (the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education), Adult Learners’ Week encourages thousands of adults, whatever their age, and background, to give learning a go.  It promotes education and training for adults, provides access to information and guidance, motivates more adults to participate in learning opportunities and celebrates the learning achievements of adult learners through regional and national awards. www.niace.org.uk/ALW
