Earl Shilton Library helps the internet shy 2009

Friday 15 May is Silver Surfers’ Day and there will be free events in libraries across Leicestershire where older people can find out what the internet can do for them.  From keeping in touch with friends and family across the globe to booking a holiday, doing the shopping, sharing photographs, catching up with missed TV programmes and much, much more, the internet has something for everyone. The library with its informal, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, supportive staff to help is an ideal place to take that first step to getting online.

Earl Shilton Library’s Silver Surfer Morning will be held on the 15 May from 10.00am until 12.00noon. free one-to-one internet taster sessions will be on offer throughout. Booking is essential, so to reserve your place please call in at the library or telephone direct on: 0116 3058392.

What are you waiting for? Come along and find out more!

Notes to editors

Silver Surfers’ Day is part of Adult Learners’ Week, a national campaign co-ordinated by NIACE, which encourages people to try something new and give learning a go.

Media literacy is becoming increasingly important as digital exclusion is proven to be a core indicator of social exclusion. Older people, who often have less opportunity to learn these skills at work or socially, need extra help to acquire them.
