Wildlife comes to town

Bushcraft skills, bird box making and even paddling a coracle are among the activities at Watermead Country Park this Bank Holiday Monday.

As part of Leicestershire County Council’s celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth, the Stepping Stones Project is joining in with a Wildlife on your Doorstep event.

The event will run from 12noon to 4pm on Monday, 25th May and involves hands-on demonstrations and activities that will aim to encourage people of all ages to take an interest in nature and the outdoors close to where they live.

Mr. Beetle, the ukulele-playing, Dr Martens-wearing beetle, will be entertaining the crowds with his songs and stories. There will also be a guided bird walk around the country park and Tropical Inc. will be there with their exciting range of exotic animals.

The event is free to those on foot or bike but there is a £1.50 charge for car parking at the Wanlip Road entrance, Syston. For further information contact Andy Jackson on 0116 305 7221 or email steppingstones@leics.gov.uk.
