Country Capers - a day of old fashioned country fun

On Sunday, 17th May 2009 from 11–4pm, Leicestershire County Council’s Donington le Heath Manor House, near Coalville, will be celebrating traditional rural life with a fun family day of music, dance, country crafts, face painting and animals.

Traditional music and dance will provided throughout the day by The Leicester Morrismen and Bakanalia Border Morris Team, with Garland dancing and a maypole workshop from the Jerusalem Jammers. Children from Hugglescote School will also be entering the spring spirit with two demonstrations of Maypole dancing.

A variety of small animals, including lambs and ferrets, will be on show, as well as a heavy farm horse going through it’s paces and ever popular display of beautiful and magnificent rescued owls from Hoots Owls.

Country crafts demonstrated on site by local experts will include making baskets, corn dollies, felting and pole lathing. Younger visitors will have a chance to make something to take home with them.

The Friends of Donington will be running a large and well stocked plant stall (worth turning up for on its own!). All funds raised will go towards the Manor House.

The Keeper of Donington, Richard Knox, said “Donington le Heath Manor House was a working farm for much of its 700 year history and it’s such a lovely venue at which to celebrate the old country way of life.”

Classics Tea Room will be open from 11-4pm serving excellent home made cakes, light meals and refreshments in the barn.

Admission to the event and the Manor House is free, but a small charge will be made for the children’s craft activities.
