ACTIVE youngsters with a passion for sport could find themselves representing Charnwood at the Leicester-shire and Rutland Youth Games.

Trials and training sessions have been arranged across the Borough for a variety of sports including hockey, netball, badminton, athletics and swimming.

The Leicester-shire and Rutland Youth Games, which are sponsored by East Midlands Airport, take place on Sunday, June 28th at Loughborough University.

Nine teams from across the County and Rutland will be representing their schools and districts at the traditional Sunday spectacular plus a brand new event for young disabled athletes on Tuesday, June 30th.

Arran Coggan, Charnwood Borough Councils Senior Sports Development Officer, said: The Games are a fantastic multi-sport competition.

They aim to provide high-quality competition for young people with sporting potential, identify talent and offer opportunities to volunteer at a major local sporting event.

We have enjoyed success in the competition in the past and will be aiming to continue that tradition at this years event while having a lot of fun in the process.

Last year, Charnwood won the Netball (year seven) and Hockey (Years seven/eight) and pupils from Mountfields Lodge Primary School won the Girls Football (Years five/six) competition.

Hall Orchard Primary School and Mapplewell Hall School pupils took the Boccia (Years five/six and Year seven upwards) titles respectively.

Everyone who is selected for the Youth Games must be available on Sunday, June 28th and all competitors will received a certificate and medal with trophies up for grabs for the winning teams.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Charnwoods Leisure Services Team on (Loughborough 01509) 634 673 or log on to www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/youthgames for more details.
