Man poses as water board official in distraction burglary
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a man posing as a water board official.
The incident happened at around 1pm on Friday May 8, when the 72-year-old victim returned home, on Colby Drive, to find a man in her kitchen claiming to be from the water board.
The man had knocked on the door a short time earlier and was let into the property by the victims husband, after claiming he needed to check the water.
As the victim spoke with the suspect two men ran from upstairs and left the house through the back door, the man speaking with the victim followed them.
It is believed that no items were taken from the property.
The suspect is described as having an Asian accent, being around 30 to 35-years-old, about 58 tall and of a slim build. He had short dark brown hair and was wearing navy blue trousers and a navy blue jumper or jacket.
PC Lena Jones, the officer investigating the incident, said: Although nothing was taken from the property there were two men in the house without permission and it would appear that this man was not a water board official.
We would like anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who saw a man matching the description who may have been accompanied by two other men to contact us with any information you have.
We would also like to remind people that if you do not know the person know the person knocking at your door do not let them in and ask them to come back when you know someone else will be at the house with you. They will have no problem re-arranging the date if they are from an official company.
