New survey to pinpoint travel trends

Residents are being asked to complete a travel diary as part of a new survey to improve local transport.

This week, 30,000 questionnaires are starting to land on doormats of selected households across the City and County.

The surveys are part of an important large-scale project to improve travel in the area being run jointly by Leicestershire County and Leicester City Councils.

Residents will be asked to fill in a 24-hour travel diary and answer some basic questions on how they travel and the problems they experience.

This information is vital in helping the councils make important decisions on how to cut down travel problems in the area. This includes reducing traffic delays, improving the road network and making it easier for people to travel.

The responses will also help to improve bus services and walking and cycling networks and pinpoint areas with high levels of pollution caused by traffic.

A spokesperson for the City and County Council said: “We would like to reassure all residents that the information they provide will be completely anonymous and will be used in the strictest confidence.

“Everyone who receives a survey is urged to complete it as they will be playing a vital role in helping to influence transport planning.”

Surveys need to be returned by Friday, 29th May.
