Appeal following arson in Melton
Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses following the report of an incident of arson at a house on Oxbow Close.
The incident happened at around 1.15am on Tuesday May 12, when the victim woke up and heard the smoke alarm ringing.
Upon investigation she found smoke and flames at the bottom of the stairs at the front door.
The fire is believed to have been started from outside the front door of the property. The fire was extinguished and no-one was injured in the incident.
Detective Constable Sam Stevens, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Fortunately the victim called the fire service in time and they explained to her how to contain the fire before they arrived.
“The victim has been left very shaken and upset by this incident, particularly as her children were in bed upstairs at the time of the incident.
“We are keen to speak with anyone who can remember seeing anyone in the area of Oxbow Road, acting suspiciously and would like you to contact us.
“Any information you have on the fire could help us, so no matter how insignificant the information may see we would like you to call us.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4411 Sam Stevens on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4411. Alternatively, you may contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
