Young people's event makes 'impact' in Lutterworth

A double decker bus full of activities for young people is visiting Lutterworth this weekend.

The event, organised by the County Council's IMPACT Team and Youth Service, is designed to encourage teenagers to find alternative types of entertainment and to take part in organised activities.

IMPACT is a project involving street-based workers who meet with young people aged 10-18 to reduce anti-social behaviour.

It has worked in over 20 towns and villages in Leicestershire, including Melton Mowbray, Loughborough, Broughton Astley and Hinckley.

The bus will be situated on the Lutterworth Leisure Centre Car Park on Saturday (16th May).

Kam Chauhan, IMPACT Project Manager, said: "The Next Generation '637' double decker bus will be parked on the leisure centre car park from 4pm to 8pm. IMPACT workers and youth workers will be on board and young people will be able to use the facilities on the bus - these include videos, Play Station 2, beer goggles, sporting activities and games to prevent drug and alcohol use."

People from IMPACT and the Youth Service will be working over the weekend to discuss issues with young people in Lutterworth and engage them in positive activities.

Sergeant Mark Winters from Leicestershire Constabulary, said: "The IMPACT Team has worked hard in building relationships with young people in and around Lutterworth. They provide a valuable service linking young people to additional activities in their area."
