Police are appealing for witnesses following an altercation on a park in Melton Mowbray.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Sunday May 10, when a 42-year-old woman and her child were walking their dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier, on Melton Country Park.

The dog became involved in a fight with another dog, a Spaniel, who was with its two owners and their family.

An altercation then occurred between the owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier and the man who owned the Spaniel regarding the fighting dogs and an allegation of assault was made.

During the incident the woman owner of the Spaniel received a bite to her hand from one of the dogs.

PC Barnaby Gibbs, the officer investigating the incidents, said: “We would like any independent witnesses who saw the incident take place to contact us.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who saw the events leading up to the altercation and after, in the hope that new information will create a clear picture of what happened.”
