Charnwood Labour Party have denounced County Hall Tory Party claims

Charnwood Labour Party have denounced County Hall Tory Party claims that they will oppose Government Housing Plans as nonsense. They cite the report prepared by Leicestershire County Council in April 2007 entitled "Leicestershire Sustainable Urban Extensions Sustainability Appraisal" which was the first document to actively promote the development of 5000 homes on Green Fields between Thurmaston and Barkby.
Eric Goodyer, speaking on behalf of Charnwood Labour said "We support the Government's Housing plans, because we are living longer and marrying later. We need more affordable homes. The problem is not the housing need, but where County Hall Tories proposed they should be built". Charnwood Labour Party has been calling for new housing to be developed on derelict industrial sites, such as the former Walker's Crisp factory and adjacent under-used land. They also want the planners to ensure that the environmental and community benefits promised by developers are actually delivered. "These companies make millions from their developments, and we want the promised money to be handed over when the first house is sold."
Charnwood Labour Party cites the fiasco over the Hallam Fields development as an example of administrative failure, even though nearly 100 houses have been sold, together with a petrol station and motel, not a single penny of the promised money has been received by the community.
