A free training opportunity is on offer with a chance to explore the mysterious world of moths encountered in Leicestershire and Rutland.
The evening session on Wednesday, May 20th 2009 will include an illustrated talk and a chance to view the diverse collections held at Leicestershire County Council’s Museum Collections’ Resource Centre.
The event is being organised by the County Council as part of the new Discover Like Darwin programme of events, which celebrate the 200th anniversary year of the birth of the scientist Charles Darwin.
Events are planned through to November and aim to increase awareness of the natural world through activities that inspire scientific exploration and observation of the environment and wildlife.
There are 2,500 species of moths in the UK and few people realise the wide range of moth species, which often rival the beauty of butterflies.
The moth identification event will be run by local enthusiast Graham Finch and will include tips on identifying moths. The session is designed for beginners to learn identification.
Booking is essential for the event, which begins at 7pm in Barrow upon Soar, as places are limited.
For further information or to book a place, contact the Museum Collections Resource Centre by calling: 0116 267 0002 or 0116 305 3726, emailing: museums@leics.gov.uk or visiting: www.leics.gov.uk/darwin.
