Leicestershire staff nominated for teaching awards

Staff from two Leicestershire schools are to attend a prestigious awards ceremony.

Rebecca Sedgwick from Brookside Primary School in Oadby and Ann Roberts from Hastings High School in Burbage have been invited to attend the finals of the East Midlands 2009 Teaching Awards.

They will be cheered on by parents and colleagues at a special ceremony which will be held at East Midlands Conference Centre, University Park, Nottingham, on Friday June 5th and will hosted by BBC TV news presenter Anne Davies.

Rebecca is one of three finalists for the SSAT Award Teacher of the Year while Ann is one of three candidates in the running for the TDA Award for Teaching Assistant of the year.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesman said: “We congratulate Ann and Rebecca for this excellent achievement and are delighted for them.

“It’s indicative of the high quality of teaching and support staff who provide excellent learning opportunities for pupils and we wish them well.”

Celebrating eleven years of recognition for unsung heroes, the Teaching Awards will focus on finalists - headteachers, teachers, teaching assistants, governors and sustainable schools - from across the East Midlands.

Each of the 12 winners from each category will receive a Plato - the Teaching Awards symbol of excellence in education.

Distinctions and commendations will also be presented at the event.
